Exclusively pumping breastmilk!

Do I have decided to breastfeed. However I am going to exclusively use a breast pump. I breastfed my son and he just tore up my nipples and nothing worked to make them better. Creams, nipple guards....nothing. had to get prescription cream which only helped a little bit. It really made it hard and I ended up drying up and he had to go to formula. But this time I would like to try to make it longer. So I have been doing some research on breast pumping. Anyone else going to do this? Or opinions?
