Menstrual Cups

Eliza
One of my friends posted this today and I feel like it would be educational for those of you who are thinking about trying them.
"1. A menstrual cup can last you TEN years! Most last between 3-5 on average, but with the right care, it can last up to 10 years. (I'm going on my third year!)
2. A menstrual cup reduces your carbon footprint! The average woman produces 250-300 POUNDS of waste in her lifetime.
3. A menstrual cup saves your bank account! It's been calculated that you can save between $200 and $1,500 every five years by ditching disposables.
4. A menstrual cup means less trips to the pharmacy/store! (And you never forget tampons or pads at home.. the cup is inside you!)
5. A menstrual cup gives you an extra 5 hours between changes/emptying! You can use a menstrual cup for 6-12 consecutive hours.
6. A menstrual cup holds more liquid! A normal tampon holds 6-9 grams of liquid, while a menstrual cup can hold up to an ounce and a half of liquid (42 grams).
7. A menstrual cup is chemical free! Avoid BPA, dioxins, bacteria, chlorine, bleach, and known carcinogens by switching to a cup made of medical grade silicone.
8. A menstrual cup offers more leak protection! A menstrual cup creates a suction-powered seal inside the vagina, meaning blood will never make it past the cup.
9. A menstrual cup means no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome! TSS is caused by bacteria harbored by the cotton used in tampons and absorbed into the vagina. Menstrual cups have never caused TSS.
10. A menstrual cup preserves your vaginal health! Tampons are rough and absorbant of everything - including your healthy vaginal fluids! They strip your vagina of vital membranes over time that make your vagina dry and more susceptible to diseases and infection.
11. A menstrual cup helps prevent rashes! Pads hold moisture close to the body, allowing for bacteria to thrive. This can irritate the vulva and labia, causing similar symptoms to that of diaper rash.
12. A menstrual cup can lighten your purse! Get rid of self-combusting tampons and runaway pads and de-clutter your purse (mine is in a small pouch in one of my purse's pockets!).
13. A menstrual cup can handle any stage of your period! Unlike pads and tampons whose absorbency must change when your flow changes (I can attest to this).
14. A menstrual cup lets you sleep more and worry less! Get your full 8 hours in without fumbling in the dark to get a tampon or pad out.
15. A menstrual cup will still work even after you have kids! Many brands have models for after child birth to accommodate for your body's changes.
16. A menstrual cup has no strings attached! No strings soaked in pee or popping out at the pool or in the bath tub. AND it keeps you clean. No leaking out of the string or messes on a pad!
17. A menstrual cup encourages you to get to know your body! A menstrual cup allows you to see the changes in your flow and understand your menstrual cycle better.
18. A menstrual cup is comfortable! Once you catch the hang of insertion, you forget about them altogether. It takes practice, but it is worth it in the end." - Samm
