Baby born 35.3 weeks
Baby born at 35 weeks. I went in for an antenatal appointment and my blood pressure was high and I had three counts of protein in my urine so they sent me off for further tests and I was admitted on Wednesday afternoon. After two days of observations and my bloods slowly getting worse they made the decision on Friday night to insert the gel to soften my cervix. The next morning I started feeling some mild period type pains but was reassured that the process of inducement could take up to 3 days so we just waited at the hospital. At 4 PM they had a quick check and I was still only 1 cm and my cervix was still quite think. At 7 PM I started getting contractions in waves very strong and quick, I worked together with my mum and husband through these contractions but by 8:30pm I was in unbearable pain and requested some pain relief medication (gas and air made me feel a bit drunk). The midwives had just changed over their shifts for the evening team and she came in and said she would need to put me on a monitor for 20 minutes before giving me the pethidine to help with the contractions, but by this point I knew there was no waiting around and this baby is coming out right then. I needed to push and with three very quick pushes baby was born a little bit shocked but healthy. It all became a bit of a panic after that with emergency button being pushed as he was so little and The paediatric team wanted to check him over he passed all of his instant tests and we've had skin to skin. unfortunately I was unable to breastfeed as my body wasn't ready and he was too small to latch on. We are working on starting my milk flow and he is having bottles to ensure he gets the nutrients in the meantime. We were kept in for a further three days and have just made it home.
