Is it normal to not have your first ultrasound until 16 weeks?

Let me start off by saying that I'm 14 weeks exactly today & I have not had any ultrasounds done at any point of my pregnancy so far.. I heard the heart beat by fetal doppler at 12 weeks but that's it. My healthcare provider did not set me up for a dating ultrasound so at my 12 week appointment I asked about it & they acted like they didn't know I was suppose to have one.. I was told that I would have to wait until a spot opened up to have a ultrasound which happens to not be until I'll be 16 weeks-1 day along.. I'm a little worried. Has anyone else not had one until that far in?

It can be normal. With my first pregnancy I only had a scan at 20 weeks. It depends on your doctor and your insurance policy. It is not necessary to have multiple scans, we just prefer more so we can see our babies. But as long as you are hearing heartbeats on a Doppler at every appointment then that is all you really need.

I've had 2 already and I'm 13 weeks but I have pretty good insurance too. Medicaid will only cover what is medically needed. If they heard the heartbeat that know baby is where it should be. 18-20 weeks sounds about right. Get a groupon or living social for another private place if you want to get an earlier one.

Ill be 20 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't had my first one. I only get one due to my Medicaid. So it'll be the gender reveal US. I get it on July 5th.

When I had Medicaid with the first three babies I only got one ultrasound at 20 weeks. Its definitely nothing to be worried about. Annoyed sure but worried no.

I don't hear of to many people having to wait that long. Typically the first one is done at like 8-10w for regular pregnancies.

I find it odd. With both my pregnancies they scheduled me around 7 weeks to confirm how far along with me. (They were different dr's for both) & the 2nd pregnancy I knew exactly when my period started & when I ovulated & when concieved.

I heard that in the UK they only get 1. I believe around 20 weeks.
