Nanny?

Question

My hubs and I have to split our time between Charlotte, NC and NYC. Both areas are pretty affluent and it seems like 60% of toddlers have full-time nannies (get this, even if mom doesn't work!) That's neither here nor there. I mean, to each their own, but... Can you ever really trust someone with your child? Given the many many horror stories we've all heard of foul play, can you ever be 100% sure? Would you go as far as to install nanny cams, or would you rather just stay home? What about family?

I can tell you from a nanny's point of view that I've been with my nanny family for about three years now. They consider me family but we all just knew during the interview that it "clicked". My mom boss worked from home for the first six months so we could get into a routine and now if they have to go out of town, they have no problem leaving little one with me. If you decide the nanny route go with your gut instincts, do multiple interviews, call references, background checks.

I'll also add that although my nanny family doesn't have cameras, I wouldn't mind if they did because there's nothing for me to be concerned about.

Personally I could not trust anyone else with my children's everyday care.
 I'm a SAHM, but if we could afford it, I would much rather have a maid to take care of the house than a nanny. So that way I could have even more time with my children. 
But I also have a friend who was a nanny for many years until she got married. And she really loved it and talked about the kids she watched as if they were her own. She was always planning fun things for the kids to help them learn something. A nanny like her would be what I would want if for some reason I couldn't be there for my kids myself.

My daughter had a nanny until she was five. I worked nights from home so slept during the day. I didn't want her in daycare; I wanted her home. I loved her and would've kept her longer if she hadn't moved to Florida. It was nice to know that someone was totally focused on taking care my baby. Playing with her and reading to her; taking her to the park. Although I was home, I worked really long hours trying to get my business off the ground and raise three kids (my husband and I were separated). It was a relief to know I could count on Ana (nanny) to look after her.

Please don't let the horror stories scare you away- there are plenty of good nannies out there! I've been a nanny for about ten years and have worked with three families- and let me tell you, I love those children (and their parents) like family. It doesn't feel like a job to me when I go into their homes and care for these children. I'd recommend that you pick an experienced nanny, run background checks, call references, and TRUST YOUR GUT.

I am a SAHM now but in the past I was a Nanny. I wouldn't distrust someone I trusted enough to hire in the first place without them giving me a reason.
