38 week check up

So my dr would not check me until 38 since I'm a ftm. So she did today and said I was 2 cm and 70% effaced and that I should have her by the weekend. I went home and the cramps sucked and seeing the blood really freaked me out. Thank God my husband was with me and kept telling me that she said this was normal. We are going to stay with my mom now starting tomorrow since she is closer to the hospital and other family. My baby is moving up a storm and now I'm so nervous. Did anyone else feel like the exam played mind games on them?
