Is it okay to let your baby cry?

Question

I don't want to spoil him but I feel so bad when he cries and just wanna pick him up and cuddle him. Today I let him cry for almost an hour and then he fell asleep. Is that wrong?

It's impossible to spoil an infant. Babies cry because of a biological or emotional NEED not because they just feel like being whiney. It's never okay to ignore a baby's cries,  they are depending on Momma and daddy to take care of then and that means tending to them whenever they cry (aka need something). Ignoring then can lead to feelings of mistrust and disconnect.

Babies aren't mentally capable of manipulation, if he is crying he needs something, even if it's just a cuddle. You can't spoil a baby.

With my 1st baby, we made sure she was fed, clean, loved on, etc. When it was time for bed we did the whole pick her up the 1st time she cried & gave her lovin'.  The 2nd time she would cry we would go to her crib and rub her back. Then we would time it. Let her cry for 30 seconds before going in to rub her back. Then 1 minute.... It was torture to let her cry for even 15 seconds longer, but we did this a couple nights. Our daughter slept through the entire night, in her own room & crib at 2 months! Anyone who knows her will tell you she was a very happy baby & toddler. Super confident & friendly & happy!  She also was a great nap taker! I plan on using this same method with this baby.

There has been times when I let my daughter cry but it's only when she wakes up when I'm showering and I need to finish, or I put her down because I'm trying to get things ready for bed. It's never for an hour. I feel bad enough for letting her cry for a couple minutes. When babies are that young they cannot be spoiled. They NEED to be held and cuddled. They are crying because they need you, not because they are spoiled and didn't get their way.

I just couldn't do it. It's not spoling them, they can't communicate any other way. I just always wonder what if they had a tummy ache or any other pain or are scared of something or simply super lonely? I wouldn't want to be left alone in that case. It's a big adjustment for a baby laying in a crib, all by themselves after being so cosy and close to mommy's heart for so long. 
I am not judging you. Just since you asked, I would do some research and then see what's right for your family.

Some people might say yes but if you're okay with letting them cry until they fall asleep as long as you check on them every so often then do it. It's your baby so do what you feel is best! 😀

After about 7-8 months I really believe babies can self soothe, unless there's a real problem that can't be seen. (Teething, upset tummy, constipated) before then, they just want love. Like a kitten meowing to be loved. That's the only way they know how.
