No nails or hair salon while pregnant...?

My mom said you can't get your nails done (acrylics) or your hair done (permed or dyed) while pregnant. Is this true??

You can still get them done as long as it's in a well ventilated area. The reason they limit this is because the fumes from the chemicals being used can harm the baby. Like dying your own hair in your small bathroom would not be a good idea.  As long as it's not overpowering, you should be fine.

I've read that sometimes the hair won't take to the perm or color because of the hormones produced while pregnant. Anyone heard of that or experienced it??

Doctors recommend not dying your hair during the first trimester, but it's perfectly safe otherwise. And at a nail salon just ask for a mask. You do what you feel comfortable with! You're the babie's mother!

You can still get your nails done and get your hair done too. The only thing is when you go into the nail salon ask for a mask and I don't know why someone would say you can't get your hair done I mean really it's just shampoo and conditioner with hair treatment or whatever you do. Now if your are getting perms or hair coloring than that's a no no because that is strong chemicals that you do not want to be inhaling while pregnant.

I think it's really about what your own preference is. I know a lot of pregnant woman get both their hair and nails done, but I personally feel uncomfortable with it. I try to avoid any extra exposure to chemicals just in general. Like I've changed my lotions, tooth paste, body wash, etc since becoming pregnant to natural options.

Honestly, nails I don't know about I never looked into it or asked my doctor about it. Hair however, yes you can color it. Just make sure it well ventilated because the smells can make you sick. If anything ask your doctor!

Hair is fine only thing I'd worry about w the acrylic is the smell it's extremely harsh get gels no odor at all
