Preparing for anal

I want to try anal sex. I have for awhile now but I know some people prepare by butt plugs and other sex toys before doing it with another person. I don't have the money to buy anything so I was wondering if there's anything I can do besides using my fingers to prepare beforehand or if you think I need to even prepare? I'm gonna use plenty of lube and be very relaxed so being tense and no lube won't be a issue!
