Sleeping ?

I let my 3week old son sleeps on his stomach a lot because it seems like he likes that position better than sleeping on his back. He always wakes up when he sleeps on his back and most of the time hard to put him to sleep on his back. Is it safe for my newborn to sleep on his stomach ? P.s he also sleeps on his side too.

All docs told me it is very unsafe especially for newborn babies to sleep on their tummy and/or their sides... Whenever I put my son to sleep on his tummy he feels sooo much better! So whenever I am finished breastfeeding him, I put him on my tummy burp him, and he instantly closes his eyes. Then Inwait just a little and put him on his back to sleep and he just keeps sleeping!

My son was a tummy sleeper from the day he was born. He wouldn't sleep on his back or side...ever! I did what was best for us and our newborn, who wasn't getting any sleep. I was paranoid for the first couple of months, but at least one of us was sleeping. :)

I alway put mine on there side. I think there afraid of the baby suffocating by not moving there head if stuck in a blanket or mattress. Once my child could roll over on there own, they scepter any way they wanted. It's up to you as a parent. I personally wouldn't want to risk it.

My niece was a tummy sleeper but his was only allowed once she could actively move her head from side to side in that position.  No blankets (only a swaddle) and no pillows or toys or puffy crib siding.  Needs to be on a firm mattress not soft.  ☺️

My doctor told me that it is preferable to put her to sleep on her side than on her back. He explained that if the baby is on her back and she vomits she can choke on it but if its on her side even if she vomits she is still  able to breathe. I have an acquaintance whose baby died because of vomiting in her sleep. Since then I always put my baby on her side until she could move around.

If he like to sleep on his stomach make sure he's not laying on top of a blanked meaning if he move or squirm he's not pushing or pulling on the blanket. That's how my kids slept or their stomach

There is an insane amount of evidence backing your doctor and solid reason as to why he said it. People can claim fads for sleeping advice or brush it off all they want, that doesn't change the data and statistics, and I really don't see why anyone would want to risk it-- I have several friends who did whose babies died. It's just not worth the risk. I agree with an above poster who mentioned letting baby fall asleep in your arms on their belly and slowly flipping them to their back before setting them in the crib. Babies who don't like laying on their backs will eventually adjust to it.

My mum had 3 girls each 7 years apart- she said each time the 'rules' changed and one time she was advised back was best then the next it was front then it was to prop to one side. I would say do what works best for you- just check on the baby regularly and I don't see any issues. As long as is face is clear from the mattress so he can breathe freely o don't see a real issue

It's a baby they sleep however they want, my son naps in his swing and sits sideways in it. And in his crib he sleeping on his side.

My kids were stomach sleepers. When I was in the hospital right after I had my daughter she spit up and started choking while on her back. I had just had a c-section and couldn't move quickly to get to her. It terrified me so if they were happy being stomach sleepers I was more than happy to let them be.
