Disappointed, frustrated, confused - ultrasound!?

Question

So my initial OB appointment is in 2 days and I will be 9+3. I have watched and waited on here as many women got ultrasounds at 6 weeks. I just got the confirmation call from the office and I asked if I would have an ultrasound. The secretary said I MIGHT have a bedside one but usually they don't do ultrasounds til 11-13 weeks. What the heck? And what the heck is a "bedside one"?

I just want to see what's happening....

Most people only get their first ultrasound at 12 weeks, people who have early ones are usually high risk pregnancies or because of cramps or bleeding!

I'm with a group of NP-midwives and they said that US are done too frequently. I'm low risk 1st pregnancy and not having one until 20 wks. I hear you, would be nice to see the little one, but I'll be 10 wks next week and get to hear the heartbeat. I'm just as excited for that day!

You would be surprised that a lot of docs still waiting till 20 weeks!  I just got mine today at 7 weeks due to multiple losses.  So If you are low risk then that's why it's at 12 week mark.

I got what might be a bedside one today it was on a portable hand held ultrasound.. My dr says i wont get a real one til 8 weeks and she called it a sneak peak

With my first pregnancy I didn't hear the heart beat until 12 weeks and one ultrasound at 20 weeks, another one done right before my c section to confirm she was still breach. I've had two miscarriages since, and I don't imagine I will have an ultrasound until 20 weeks again. I live in Canada, and I think that's the norm for here unless you have reason to do an early one. My miscarriages weren't related to each other, one was from a hemmorage and the other just a chemical one. Although I'm absolutely on the edge of my seat, my free health care doesn't really just let me jump in line for an ultrasound whenever I please lol. Just another thing to look forward too after this horrible nausea goes away!

With my older sons I had to wait until 10 weeks to hear the heartbeat and then until 20 weeks to see them ( though we ended up paying to see them early at a 3 d place).

I have had 3 losses and ttc for the last 4 years and so will be getting an ultrasound tomorrow at 6 wks 4 days for viability.  It's almost worse having one early because dates can be off and then you only see a sac or no heartbeat and have to come back. My OB said it makes most people worry unnecessarily but anxious to see if we are ok.

The 3 d places are awesome and you can usually find out the sex as early as 13 weeks!

I'm assuming bedside means the ultrasound machine is next to the bed. That is how mines went. They had a screen for the doctor to see, and a separate Tv screen for me and my boyfriend to look at! You have a right to request an ultrasound.
