Iud after labor?

I got opinions from two different doctors about implanting an iud immediately after passing the placenta as opposed to waiting 6 weeks to be implanted then. I've gotten a lot of criticizism from a mom group for this, everyone thinks I should wait that the risk outweighs the gain. But I have no desire to become pregnant or even chance it because I'm currently living in a state that doesn't support reproductive rights, and if I became pregnant it would be very difficult for me to come by an abortion.

Has anyone EVER had an iud implanted immediately following giving birth and not at their 6week check up after the fact? I want opinions from women who also chose this method.

Well you're not supposed to have sex for that long sometimes longer. Why can't you wait.

I would advise you not to get one at all. Caused me all kinds of health issues. Some I didn't even know could be related to something in my vagina. Many many people have issues with these. Make sure you do your research.

I'd have to say that my experience with IUD's isn't great to begin with. After the birth of my oldest, I had the mirena IUD inserted. I hated it. My body doesn't do well with hormonal birth control to begin with, so the side effects I experienced were awful. The worst of it was the fatigue. It was so severe and docs couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I just could not function tho, and I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue. It messed with my cycles real bad too, and my periods went from lasting 5 days to 10. I was miserable and talking with a girlfriend who suggested my severe fatigue and other symptoms were due to the Mirena IUD, as she had gotten the same one and had it removed because of those same symptoms. I scheduled an appt to have it removed, and when my doc went to remove it, she couldn't find it. It had gotten embedded in my uterus, and I had to have a D&C to have it located and removed. You'd think I would have known better, but when I gave birth to my youngest (we planned him!), my doc talked me into the paragard IUD. She said it had no hormones, so I wouldn't have any side effects from it. 2 years later, it failed me when my hubby dislodged it (with his, uh... member!) & it came out on it's own, to my horror one night! When I told my doc, she said this was very common, as it can also become dislodged up into your uterus... No more IUD's for me anymore!! Not meant to scare you, just hope you're very informed that this is truly the form of birth control you want. Take care & all my best!
