What are the benefits of water birth?

I really want to do one but I want to know the pros and cons.

I've done allot of research on water births and in certain places you can actually so them in the hospital. Birthing center's are nice though and they accept insurance. The water makes it easier on mom baby taking weight off of the uterus. In some cases this can slow labor but a good mid wife can help guide you through the steps to pick it back up. Despite what I've seen others post here I've never heard of the baby inhaling water because it's the exposure to air that stimulates the first breath not the birth itself. Water lessens labor pains and makes transition easier for mom and baby.

I personally wouldn't have one just because I'm pro bath delay. I've had 2 babies and with my 1st I didn't delay the bath and his skin was so bad. With my 2nd I delayed the bath so that the vernix coating could soak in and she hasn't had 1 blemish. The vernix coating is amazing. So if you did a water birth that would get washed off immediately. I would look into the benefits of the vernix coating.

As a midwife's assistant, I can say the only downside is if there is extra bleeding that needs to be addressed, getting out of the water is complicated. Other than that, it's more comfortable, an easier transition, etc. The baby will not breathe in water.

I've heard- pros: natural pain relief (heard it still hurts but helps), speeds up labor, makes transition for baby easier, less stress to perineal area so less tearing.
Con: baby could breathe in water

I'm not sure if pros but I heard it can be dangerous as baby can breathe in the water and get pneumonia. I haven't looked into it though so I'm really not too sure !
