The state of the world for our children
I lay here with my son and I watch him sleep. He looks so peaceful, just 6 months old he is just starting to explore his world around him. His world is safe, his world is small, he is far from knowing about the danger and the injustice in the world. As a parent, you try your best to shelter them from the horrors of the world for as long as you can. I hear the news, I read the horror and I think about how it will feel the first time that my son has to hear about these things. How will I explain how and why these horrible things happen? Most importantly, how will I continue to maintain a safe, secure world for my son? This is how the world has always been I imagine, there has always been war, racism, terrorism. I look at my son and wonder why can't it always be this peaceful? I don't want my son to live in fear like so many have to. I want my son to know that we are all equal, regardless of race, religion, sexual preference etc. I wish that racism, war and terrorism didn't exist in 2016. I want what all parents want, a safe world for our children to grow up in. It sounds like a fairytale. If my son grows up to love everyone equally as I have, then we have one less racist person in the world. Here's hoping that the upcoming generations can be the change.
"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."
