Good Latch, Why PAIN?!

Question

I need your help! We are at 5 weeks of breastfeeding and I have had one feeding on my right side that I felt no pain.

I have been told we have a good latch and that she's taking plenty of skin in, I don't think she has any ties but my poor nipples are raw and I'm feeling massive amounts of pain the entire time she's nursing. Does anyone have any suggestions?!

I've tried Newman's nipple Cream, coconut oil, hydrogel, lanolin, expressing milk, and combinations of all of the above.

Definitely take her to a lactation consultant and have her checked for a tongue tie! They can make your nipples crack and completely raw. No fun!
As soon as you get the tongue tie fixed (if she has one), you'll feel an immediate difference in your nipples.

At five weeks the pain should be dramatically lower, not worsening. Have you had your baby examined for tongue tie?

My son was the same way. Every lactation consultant I saw told me he had a good latch but I still was in so much pain. Turns out he had a tongue and lip tie. We got them both released but the pain never got any better. Then the lactation consultant told me she thought I had thrush. We both got treated but the pain still didn't get better. When I saw my doctor at my 6 week postpartum visit she told me she thought I had Raynaud's. The only way I could nurse was with a shield. The shield decreased my supply though. I had to give up breastfeeding way before I wanted to because I couldn't take the pain anymore, it was starting to hurt even with a shield toward the end. He's 11 weeks now, and I breastfeed once a day with a shield just to make myself feel a little better about giving up breastfeeding. I hope you find your answer. Just wanted to share my story. Breastfeeding is not as easy as everyone makes it seem.
