Am I doing this wrong?

I check my cm and cervical position every day but don't log it into Glow because I feel like I'm either not doing it right or don't know exactly what I'm doing.. I can tell if it's high, low, or medium but never soft or hard, open or closed. It always feels the same to me. Is there anything I can do to make checking these things easier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks ladies!
