What would going to the doctor do?

Okay so I missed last months period and this months. I've taken 3 pregnancy tests and they've all came back negative. I see lots of posts on here about similar things and there's always a few comments saying go to your doctor but my question is: what would they do? I know that may sound silly that I'm asking, but I'm just curious.
