Why do dogs hump?

I have a female dog and a male dog the male dog is fixed so he can't get her pregnant again. I'm just curious like this happens mostly every other month lol

If the female isn't fixed, it doesn't matter. My neutered males still "breed" with intact females. They cross over and everything. She may be in or near a heat cycle. If not, it's a dominance thing.

My female dog starts by licking herself, then puts her paw over her vaginal area and humps/grinds against the floor. She does it a few times a week. It's quite funny.

It's how dogs prove their dominance over one another, I have a male dog who is fixed but is very dominant and when he plays with other male dog he will try to jump them to show he is dominat to them or the alpha dog.
