Anyone traveled with a newborn?

My mom and I have a road trip planned for August 6-11 to see my dad's side of the family up north. Little man is due July 25th so I know that's not a lot of time in between. I've really been looking forward to this trip to see my family and introduce them to the baby. The trip is an 8 hour drive one way. My husband took the time off and we were just going to ride up with my mom. I've heard both sides about traveling with a newborn.....one is that it's easier because they sleep the majority of the time and the other is that it's more difficult because, well, it's a newborn. Anyone gone through this? I'd hate to have to cancel.

Everyone I know (myself included) found it easier than a toddler-- they sleep a ton and you just have to pull over to nurse or sit in the back to bottle feed. Easy peasy if you have someone else driving!

Play it by ear and see how you feel after the little one is born and settled. If you have to cancel your family should understand. With that being said, I haven't taken a newborn on a trip myself, but I know people who have and said it's not that hard as long as you have some help. I hope everything works out for you!

I traveled with my baby girl 8 hours to Tennessee from Iowa. She did amazing, slept a lot, I even had to wake her for diaper changes and feedings during rest stops! :-) I think baby will be just fine! If anything, you may be a bit sore from that long of a ride..I was because my delivery ended up in an emergency c-section but nothing a little Tylenol couldn't cure :-)

If it makes you feel better, I'm taking my road trip 7 days after baby is born (based on induction day), and our trip is 23 hrs of driving  (breaking it down to 3 days each way) and I will also have a 2 yr old who is newly potty trained, and 5 yr old who gets car sick! I'd trade for your travel in a heart beat! Lol. I think you'll be fine :) Go for it!

I'm due July 23rd and taking a road trip to see my parents .. It's like a 5 hour drive. So no worries! As long as you feel up to it I don't see why it's an issue unless maybe your doctor says no?

Well hopefully your baby comes on your due date!! You also have to make sure your at your pediatric appointments, too. I took my son at 4 months... You'll probably be better off with a newborn than I was. Good luck!

You'll be more uncomfortable than the baby. But factor in having to stop often to nurse if you're going to breastfeed. When my son was older, like close to a year, I could hang over the carseat and nurse him without stopping the car. You'll probably bleed a lot on the trip and after, so be sure you're drinking water.

Newborns sleep a lot, I think it would be easier than if you waited till baby was 6 months.

We have traveled 4 hours away with my newborn, 3 times now, just stop every hour or two to get him to eat, even if you don't think you need to. It will ensure that baby doesn't wake up screaming in between stops (: my son is great in the car he's 13 days old and has gone about 2,000 miles 😂

I drove to help my brother move his last of his apt (small stuff) in my van with my last baby. It was a 3 hr drive. She slept lost of the way got up to eat was alert while we were there and slept the whole way back. I also had my 3 yr old son with us he slept an hr the whole day :/ baby was much easier to travel with!
