Does it matter?? (Metformin)

Question

Does it matter what time in the day you take your metformin? Can you take the whole 3 (1500mg) at the same time of the day?? Will it effect any differently then taking them at breakfast, lunch & dinner? any advice? I want to take them all at the same time so that I don't forget to take them all!

I wouldn't recommend taking them all at once the primary reason we're prescribed metformin is to counteract the insulin resistance (producing to much). If you think about when you eat as your body digest food your body begins to respond and release insulin to keep your blood sugar stable. So each time you eat your blood sugar will begin to rise triggering insulin to be produced. Taking metformin with each meal makes sure that your insulin does not go overboard so your hormones can either stay balanced or work on becoming more balanced. I also believe and have experienced nausea after eating a super healthy meal and taking metformin it lowers your blood sugar I would imagine taking it all at once could be somewhat dangerous.

It doesn't matter, although you'll experience less symptoms of you take it with food. I like to take mine at night so I sleep through most of the side effects.

All I know is my prescription says to take it with meals and when I don't it makes me sick ... So I just take it when I eat breakfast and at dinner

It should say on the bottle, but if it doesn't, it's likely you're supposed to take them spread out throughout the day. I take four a day and I'm supposed to take two in the morning and two at night.
