How do you do it? (Long)

Question

My dh and i are supposed to start ttc in September. I've wanted a baby since i was 24 (4yrs ago) due to financial and medical reasons we were forced to wait. Now I'm wondering if its selfish to bring a child in this world. (Please don't be offended this is just an opinion) we live in a country ruled by hatred. If you're white you're hated for being racist even when you're not if you're black your hated for being a thug even when you're not if you're Hispanic your hated for being illegal even when you're not. And so on. I live in a school district that is awful but we're not moving any time soon cuz we just put a ton of money in our home. I'm afraid we're gonna have a child and he or she will suffer. Poor education, low paying jobs a government fueled by money and hate. I want a baby so badly but is it selfish?

My husband and I are different races and different cultures and expecting our first of hopefully more children. We have different fears for our child because of our different upbringings. The common thing is that we want to raise our child to be a good person. One good can make a world of difference. If more people raised kind caring children we could make a difference.

I made a poll about the same topic! It IS selfish. That is why you have to give your life to help your children have a good one. You decide to make them, which is a big choice. This world sucks but you can help them by raising them with love and support.

Also, people my age (around 23) were conceived during the Gulf war. My grandpa during the Great Depression. My neice right around 911. I'm sure we're all still glad our parents had us. This world has always been damgerous and violent. Only now we have access to coverage of it 24/7 365.

It's always selfish.  But my friends thought this right after sept 11th. There's never a good time and the US isn't a terrible place to be, it's quite privileged actually. But choosing to bring a child into the world isn't really about them...you can decide how to raise them. The world will change a thousand times over and quite frankly, in the span of their childhood it won't change much at all...depends on how you choose to look at it.

At 33 I've been wrestling with those same thoughts for a long time. At one point you can't let the world get you down. You only live one life choose to live it how you want.
