Umbilical cord. No using alcohol now?

We've been home for a week now. Anybody else experiencing this? Now they changed it and say not to clean the umbilical cord with alcohol but it's abit smelly. Doesn't look infected or any gross discharge just stinks... Think in gonna start using it. We did with our first daughter and it healed up and fell off and no smell.

Just leave it alone until it falls off don't get it wet at all. Yes it stinks and when my daughters fell of there was the green smelly liquid in her belly button but it was normal.

I was always told not to apply anything and just make sure it was always dry. I never had any problems with it and it healed fine. X

Thats odd. We always cleaned at least around the umbilical cord with alcohol. And when necessary the actual cord.

3 kids never used it, but it definitely never smelled or hada discharge so I would get it checked just to be sure

I think if it smells that bad and had discharge.. Get it checked with a doctor :). 
But if it's not that bad.. Yes try using alcohol around it and just dap the middle part.. I did it with my first and it came off perfectly fine ;)
