Tampon Situation

So I got my period on the 14th this month and I really want to try tampons. The only tampons I have are cardboard. Also my period is getting really light. I don't have any blood down there. Which is worded bc I get my period for about a week. I also tried to put in a tampon but I think my vagina hole is too small. I'm a virgin so I've never had anything down there.
