Well, if you love active sports and watching those active sports on ESPN, you have E-sports to thank for saving ESPN and their affiliates from bankruptcy.

No one bitched about poker being broadcast.

Also, the gaming industry is 17 times larger than all competitive active sports combined.

I'm a huge gamer but I'll never consider video games a sport.

I love my games and the community they come with (usually), and many games do require refined skill to be truly good at so I understand *some* games being a sport from that perspective.

It's no different than chess or anything similar. However they aren't comparable to the physical effort required for contact sports of course. There's also tournaments, cash rewards, media coverage, celebrities and all that crap for skill-based games too if that sways you.

The university in my city has an "e-sports" team which is basically that, hey go to competitions and play against other schools teams. They recently won like $80,000 in the championshups to split between 6 of them. I don't think it's a sport or should be considered a sport, but it can be a competitive team activity like a sport.

A sport is a competitive physical activity, like swim or cheer or wrestling and things like that, not sitting on your ass on electronics, that may have the competitive part, but there isn't any real physical activity involved
