Metformin 1000mg at 6 weeks or 500mg?

Hi girls. I have pcos and i have been treated with metformin for over a year with 1000mg a day. Now that i am 6 weeks the doctor asked me to reduce it to 500mg a day. Is it that safe? I am scared. All is ok now. Anyone?

I was on 2000mg and I stopped completely a month before I conceived. I am now 34 weeks and 4 days! Baby is doing great!
