Hair dye that's good for pregnancy??

Question

So I'm five weeks and my OBGYN has said a big NO to getting my hair dyed while I'm in my first trimester but did say that natural hair dye would work.   My hairdresser could easily come to my house for a well ventilated area, but my OBGYN said its not just about venilation it's about the hair dye entering the bloodstream.  Anyone know of any commercial hair salons that use natural hair dye?  I'm dying to get my hair done!  Dying!  The grays are coming it to play.  Please help!!  I'd like to not have to wait until my second trimester.  I have two works trips coming up.  I live in Las Vegas so I have access to some of the best salons.  I'd like to get in for an appt as soon as I can.

I'm a hairstylist and it blows my mind when I hear this. The molecules from hair color and/or bleach are too big to pass into your blood stream, let alone travel all the way through your placenta to affect the baby. Not to mention we work with these chemicals throughout our pregnancies. If you're still "going to wait to be safe" I highly discourage getting anything let alone henna. It's extremely hard to remove if you ever decide to change the color.

Most salons have ammonia free color now. I had my color done at 4-5 weeks and no problems.

I am both pregnant and do hair - myself and hundreds of hairdressers don't stop working just because were pregnant. However if your OB said no, simply Yelp/Google for a salon near you that offers ammonia free color such as Goldwell!

I've never heard that before? I dyed and bleached my hair all the time at a salon.

I'm a hair stylist, it absolutely drives me crazy when people (especially doctors) say that the color will pass into the blood steam. The molecules of the color are far too big to pass through. 🙄
As long as you're in a very well ventilated room or salon you are completely fine to have your hair colored and/or bleached. If you get uncomfortable during your service, let your stylist know. 99.9% of the time they accommodate for you.

I regularly maintain my hair every 6-8 weeks and I've made it all the way to the third trimester with absolutely zero complications.

If you feel you HAVE to listen to your doctor, by all means go ahead. But if you're needing your hair done to the point it's driving you crazy, I say go for it.

It is up to you to listen to your Dr. Or not. Remember in the 70's they told pregnant women to smoke and drink because it was good for the baby! 
Things change every single year on the "good" and "bad" things for pregnant women. If you feel comfortable then do it. If not then don't.

I get my hair done on the regular but waited till my second trimester. Perfectly safe. However listen to your doctor he knows best!

I've dyed my hair 3 times since being pregnant. twice in my second trimester and once just last week at 35 weeks my OB told me it's fine as long as I do it in a well ventaliated space and to use one that is ammonia free which most hair dye is now a days. There are more expensive home dye brands that are natural that's what I try and use!

They say its best to wait u til second trimester because for 1, you may not be able to handle the smell. 2 because of some of the chemicals in the dye that you can breathe in. None of the dye passes through the scalp to the baby. But inhaling some of the dye isnt great for the baby. Its best to wait for the safety of your unborn.
