When does your water break?

I'm 35 weeks pregnant. My son was born at 36 weeks. I'm having regular contractions 5 minutes or less apart. Since I'm so early my doctor told me not to come in unless my water breaks. WHEN DOES IT NORMALLY BREAK AFTER CONTRACTIONS GET SO BAD?! My son was breach so they took him incase water breaking would hurt him. I've tried water, baths, and laying down and I just hurt. Is the light at the end of the tunnel soon??

That seems crazy. My moms water didn't break until she was 8 cm. if the pain gets too unbearable I would just go in. You'll have your baby on the way to the hospital if it's up to your doctor.

My water broke on its own with my first and I was barely dialated when I got to the hospital.

My water never broke naturally with my daughter I was pretty much fully dilated and they had to break it for me

I was at 7cm and my water still hadn't broken.  My labor was stalled for hours and i finally let them break it for me.
