IUD or the pill?

has anyone had an IUD? i want to get one rather than taking the pill. which kind is best? does it hurt? what are the side effects of it?

I had a copper IUD ... no extra pain.  Did have substantially heavier bleeding every month.  Would do it again in a heart beat over hormonal pills.

I've heard IUD does hurt but it's easier than trying to remember to take a pill at the same time every day

I've used the pill and now have the Mirena IUD. Both were great, but I love my IUD.
My insertion was pretty easy. Was more uncomfortable than painful really.

I didn't have any side effects with the pill, and I haven't had any with my Mirena either.

IUD but remember either way you still need to wear a condom. Birth control doesn't protect you from STDs
