Elk Meat Sickness (help!!!)

An hour ago I ate half an elk meat sausage and got viciously sick with chills, diarrhea, and just general stomach cramping. This is the FIRST time I've ever ate elk. My uncle also ate some (2 to be precise) and did not get sick. What's up with that? Anybody else have experience with game meat??? I took pepto and now my stomach is calming. Could it be due to the high protein in elk meat???
