Is a title really necessary?

I've been dating this man for 4 months. Things have been going amazingly well and we're more exclusive than anything. Both of us are "fresh(early this year)" out of long term relationships. We're enjoying each other but I can't help but wonder why is placing a title on this so important right now. As weird as it sounds, I feel somewhat pressured to bring it up from close friends. They have already label us as a couple but we haven't done so. I feel like it may be too soon for us to actually label anything because we're trying to enjoy and learn each other before we make anything concrete. I've expressed this several times. Am I wrong for thinking that a title at this time does not define our relationship?
