Baby kicks

I am about 17 weeks and I'm not at all sure what I'm looking for when it comes to baby movement. Yesterday I had a weird feeling right at the edge of my belly button. I told my husband and so he poked at my belly a little, and it happened again. Could that be the baby? It felt like a poke, but I'm not sure if the baby would even be that high. Also, how often do you feel movement around this time?  Thanks!
