Birthing ball to bring on labour?

So my partners mum bought me a birthing ball yesterday to try and bring on my labour, anyone have any success stories with this? Or any advice on specific things to do with it?

All these techniques you find on helping with going into labor usually only works if you're already dilated. My family have told me that walking everyday for some period of time will help and it hasn't. I went into L&D and got told that things like that only work when you're dilated.
