Pediatric Billing Dept.
When my babe had a bloody diaper, the first thing my husband did was call her pediatrician.
Apparently, the office had just entered into a new billing cycle and still hadn't received payment for the previous 3 weeks of service from Medicaid (1 well visit, and 2 weight screens) So, they had him on the phone for a few minutes discussing PAYMENT before telling him that they couldn't schedule an emergency visit unless we were going to self-pay.
Keep in mind, they had already confirmed our Medicaid coverage weeks prior.. They just hadn't received payment from Medicaid yet.
I was shocked when I walked into the room and heard the conversation. We hung up and went straight to the nearest emergency room - vowing to never use that pediatricians' office again.
It is a shame since we really liked her doctor. Despite this, since the front staff in a practice is the first and last person in contact, we made the decision to look elsewhere in hopes of finding a better admin staff with a less cut throat approach. It wasn't about the money, but the attitude towards a child that requires immediate medical attention. That is what left a bad taste in my mouth.
We have a new pediatrician appointment on Aug 5th, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
