Does Spironolactone help your acne? (Answer if you have been prescribed it!)

I've been on the birth control pill for about 6 years now for PCOS and it has never helped my acne. My gynecologist prescribed Spironolactone (also called Aldactone) to help with my acne. Have any of you successfully cleared your acne with this medicine?

What? Spironolactone is used as a diaretic to help with blood pressure in people with heart failure. It can actually cause acne flair ups. And why in the world would a gynecologist prescribe acne medicine? I'm so confused.
