Rude parents?

I just need to rant, but why are some parents extremely rude to their kids? I'm 17 and my own dad just called me a prostitute/hood rat. This whole thing was triggered by a lipstick. I don't understand. Do parents not know that comments like that KILL self-esteem. This isn't the first time I get hateful comments from my dad. I'm just sharing what just happened. Can anyone relate? If so, how did you confront your parent about it?

I know exactly how you feel!! My dad has been putting me down since before I can even remember! One time he said I was going to be a terrorist and that if I don't stop eating then I'm going to blow up like a balloon! Eventually he even became physically abusive too. Long story short I had depression and an eating disorder and I cut myself for months because he hurt me so much. Not to mention the fact that I do everything wrong in his eyes. Anyways, I found that the best way to get through it is by finding support whether it is friends online or at school, just find support and talk things out. Holding things in makes it ridiculously harder than it needs to be and once you get it off your chest you'll feel better, I promise. Also, when he is yelling at you just look for the light at the end of the tunnel and try to ignore him. I know it sounds typical and lame but, honestly, there isn't much you can do in that moment. My mom says if I even wear a tank top I look like one of those sluts out there but she has to realize I'm a teenager I think I'm old enough and smart to know what to wear and I can choose what to wear. I know what your saying

My dad called me a whore. I went to homecoming with my boyfriend and when before homecoming I told him I was going to it, and my dad asked with you and I said " oh with my other boyfriend jimmy " and then I said I was kidding I was going with my actual boyfriend, and he said " well with you, I never know because you're really into boys " ( well he said something like that but he referenced me as a whore I remember that ) and he's actually done it multiple times. Only because I lost my virginity at 15 he's basically hated me since then. So yeah it really brings my self esteem down a lot.

It's could honestly be the fact that your growing up and you're not his little girl anymore. My dad wasn't quite like that but I could some what relate to what you mean.

Since I was 11 I felt like my mum actually hated me, she would yell and yell and yell and call me useless and worthless, but lately since I turned 18 it's like she's a new person. I think she just hates teenagers.
