I personally will not worry about this because I found out 2 people are throwing me a shower but i understand where she is coming from. Some agreed and some disagree

I always try to bring something, even if it's small when I am invited but I would rather celebrate with a small group of poor friends who love me and my growing family who can't really afford gifts instead of a bunch of rich acquaintances who shower me with presents. It's not about receiving gifts, even though it is nice to get some new things every once in a while, it's about the amazing child you are growing inside of you and celebrating their life...but maybe I'm just an idiot.

 Sounds more like she's the freeloader wanting everyone else to purchase things for her. 
This is where people get lost. It's like when a kid ask where's his gift on his birthday. We are here to celebrate you are ALIVE and if someone so happens to bring a gift you are lucky!!

It's funny and sort of mean but I then again... Who does go to a baby shower with no gift? I'd be really really embarrassed to go to one empty handed.
