Heating food in plastic..?

Like plastic bowls etc. I remember learning in nutrition class that this is like super toxic becuz the plastic chemicals melt into your food. I just realized tho every time we heat up soup or anything it's usually in a plastic container in the microwave. Is this really as dangerous as they say?

If you microwave in a plastic container, check and see if the plastic is super flexible when you pick it up while it's hot. If it's still sturdy, it's fine. If it's really bendy (lol making up my own word over here) that's a sign that the plastic is melting. You probably don't want to microwave in that guy anymore. In general, it's not a huge worry but it's something I avoid.

Personally I only heat things up in glass, plastic is toxic to our health, especially heating it up! I was told as well and I have read a lot of research proving that plastic melts into your food while you heat up, and it's very bad for your health!

I try to avoid plastic stuff unless it is BPA free because I am really senstive to that type of stuff. I'm also really starting to get into the habit of reading every label while shopping for foods and drink because I am allergic to artificial sweetners and it seems like everything these days have them in it. There are a few that are artificial sweetners/preservatives as well so I have to be super careful these days.

Most containers now a days are microwave friendly and don't have this issue. Check your container and see if it's safe.

I wouldn't heat up a plastic baby bottle in the microwave, I won't drink out of a plastic water bottle after it's been in the car all day, but I'll heat up MY food in a plastic container in the microwave.

Over time i guess it could be dangerous but I've read that its even worse when pregnant because the bpa in most plastic containers could possibly affect fetal development
