Is he being weird or is it just me

My boyfriend has recently started school and now he has new "friends" that he doesn't want me to meet. For example last night him and his classmates went to the movies. When he got home he told me how each of them brought a friend or cousin, so I asked him why couldn't I go, and he replies "I wasn't thinking about it" ... Is it wrong to think that he's being sketchy?
