Others with HYPOthyroidism??

I've been taking synthroid since March. We finally got my TSH level in check but I'm gaining weight like crazy... Even while working out and watching what I eat! 😡 Just curious if there are any other ladies on here experiencing the same thing because it's ruining my self-esteem!

I just had my thyroid removed due to follicular thyroid cancer. Thyroid problems run in my family. My mom became hypothyroid when she was younger and was placed on synthroid it has been working just fine for her. For me, I had to become hypothyroid for my rai and started synthroid just last week, I believe you on how sucky hypothyroid is I'm sorry stay strong. 😊❤️ rn I'm on 125 mcg of synthroid, I've been fine. I've actually been losing weight from all of this. I know some people that take naturethroid and it's been working well for them. Just focus mainly on diet, exercise and trying to get your medication adjusted to the correct dosage or change medication brands. I hope this helps, stay strong 😊

I'm on levothyroxin and the first year I gained weight like crazy. Eventually it stopped and I was able to control it. I have a hard time losing weight to be under 165 but I'm never over 175. Talk to your doctor about it. But give your body time to adjust to the new hormones the meds are giving you from your thyroid.

I have it. You may be sensitive to something in your meds causing you to gain weight, may want to look into switching. If you are on  name brand Synthroid you may trty the generic (levothroxine). If youre on the generic get Name brand. They are suppose to be the same, but they are not. I literally feel like im dying on the generic. You only have yo tell the pharmacy when you refill you want the other. Your doctor should also at least be checking your T3 and T4 as well as TSH. There is also a wide range of normal in the numbers. You will want to be in the optimal range, for TSH that'd be close to a 1. Also there are foods we should avoid. Normally a high protein lower carb diet helps. Avoiding processed foods is a big help and at least half your body weight in ounces of water every day.  Also be careful you are not over exerting yourself while working out as over working works against us.

I'm only on 75mcg. That's where my PCP left it since my TSH level was fine. I still have all the symptoms I had before I started the levothyroxine which makes me wonder if I'm still not on the right dosage. She hasn't checked my T3 or T4, just TSH. My first lab draw back in March showed fine T3 and T4 levels so maybe that's why she hasn't checked them since. It's frustrating because I gave in and bought bigger size pants for work and shorts for summer. I can't even fit in them, now, since I'm still gaining weight. It's mostly in my stomach, I think. I'm only 24 so I was surprised to find out I was hypothyroid.
