****Opinions on who should be in the delivery room?

Question

I of course know that I want my mom & my fiancée in the room but I can have 3 people & my sister & my dad both want to be in there.... My dad was in the room when my nephew was born along with my sisters husband and my mother. I was only 13 at the time so I wasn't in there.. I don't want either one to get their feelings hurt but I'm just not sure what to do. Help!!

I think it's a personal choice BUT instead of have tention, I'd rather they both wait in the waiting room together.

My first child I had no friends or baby's dad as support and it was my dad who came to Lamaze Classes, hospital tours and was in the delivery room. And know what? He was great. Because of him and his calm nature, I had an unmedicated birth even after 22 hours of labour and almost 3 hours of pushing (she was born 9lbs 6oz). Not my mom as she's just so full of anxiety it would have made everything 100000% worse. I think you should have whoever you think will keep you calm and help with labour. Can even have "shifts" between support people on rotation.

It's obviously your choice, but if you're comfortable w both of them, have them switch out. Being one in for a while, then the other.

I think some hospitals limit the number of people that can be in the room as it can get very crowded and anything can happen and so doctors don't want to be pushing people out of the way in case of emergency. For example, when my son was born, he had a bowel movement while in the womb so about 5-6 additional doctors rushed the room all at once to evaluate him. It would have been difficult for them to attend to him so quickly with a crowded room. In addition to that, I find giving birth a very intimate thing that I only want my husband in there. I had my husband mom and grandma in there while I labored and waited to get to the pushing. But once it came time to get to pushing, everyone left but my husband.

Whom ever will bring you comfort. If it makes you feel awkward or embarrassed they can wait outside. You need to relax and let your body do its thing, not worry who is seeing what! Do what feels right to you and only you.

If my dad were still alive I would 100% have him in the room with me. For everyone saying they don't want their dads seeing their vagina... like I'd have him sit by my head. I had my DH by my head with the first and will do the same with this one.

Whoever you're closer too, my grandma was never around when my mom was growing up so her and my aunt bounced from home to home and have a really tight bond, instead of having either parent in the room with her when I was born she asked my aunt to stay with her. It's whoever you feel more comfortable with (I'm asking my mom sister and hubby to be there, but not my dad, b/c he wasn't there while I grew up)

I personally couldn't imagine my dad in there with me. I think the less people the better. All I need is my husband right next to my head talking me through everything.
