I had pink tinged discharge so I went for a scan...I saw the baby's heartbeat and was told all was ok but I knew it wasn't. The next day I started to bleed heavily so went to hospital and they confirmed baby's heart had stopped beating

Both times were after we saw the heartbeat, but I had already started spotting. I was diagnosed with threatened miscarriage. We didn't realize at the time that the heart rates weren't where they should have been (the doctor told us the first time that it was low but m/c wasn't inevitable; the second time was higher, but doctor told us later that it still should have been higher). On the next ultrasound to check on things both times, the heart had stopped beating.

Answer

Ectopic on right- heart already stopped. Ectopic on left- still bleeding. They were a year apart. So both before and after, but both were ectopic and needed to be terminated anyway.
