Importance of hormone checks

How important are hormone checks? I had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy and am now on 5 weeks with my second. I asked the doctor to check my hormone and progesterone levels today to make sure they were where they needed to be but my doctor brushed it off like they weren't a big deal. I understand whatever's meant to happen will happen, but I would like to know what's going on with my child. Thoughts?
