Wine ok?

Question

Is it safe to have a glass of wine? I've read many posts saying it's safe and  others saying not at all. Is there a particular wine that is safe?

Answer

The reality is, there is no test that can definitively say how much alcohol is safe while you're pregnant. Yes, there are some arguments for the health benefits for a little red wine, but there is still the risk of the alcohol to the baby. Only you can decide what that risk is worth to you. For me personally, no alcohol is worth the potential risks, but I know plenty of people who see it from the other side.

My doctor said zero in the first trimester, but if I want to enjoy a small glass infrequently towards the end of the 2nd and 3rd, it's not a huge deal. In the book "expecting better" the author did a lot of research in European countries that actually encourage drinking a small amount. For me, I haven't taken the plunge, but I'm not about to judge someone who has half a glass.

I haven't drank but half a glass the entire pregnancy but a glass a day is fine. But you're about to get bombarded with a bunch of judge mental pregnant women who say no amount of alcohol is safe but screw them it's your baby and everything will be fine. My coworker drank everyday for 6 months because she didn't know she was pregnant and her baby is perfectly healthy.
