I already know that it can come out and not mean labor.  I'm wondering does it come out because you dilate. ..... ?

No you can loose it before you start to dialate too!  For most it's a sign that they are about to go into labor soon, but not always right away either

I never had a show on any of my pregnancies, on my last baby just before I was ready to push the midwife said "oh you just had a show"! So I don't honestly know how it works!!!

My doula had her plug come out 3 weeks before she went into labor. So it just means things are progressing. Could be now. Could be later. I guess we will never know
