Crib bumpers a no no?

Question

I know we aren't supposed to use crib bumpers because of the suffocation risk.  This morning my baby had her leg stuck between the crib slats. I researched the breathable mesh ones and read they are too new and there isn't enough studies and reputable information out about them yet. Wondering how you other moms have your cribs set up. Thank you.

Bumpers are not just a suffocation risk, they are a strangulation risk. I have three baby's, a wrought iron crib, and absolutely don't use bumpers. No one in my house has been injured from their crib. No one has ever died from bumping the side or having their leg stuck. Plenty of children have died from the use of bumpers. It's rare one of my kids stuck their limbs outside of the crib. When they do, I've helped them. It's not worth the risk for bumpers.

We just put bumpers on our bed! I know people say no, but our nephew broke his lag by being stuck in the bed, and we decided this was best for us. He was always banging his head on the crib, and crying from pain :(

BreathableBaby brand mesh bumper on Amazon -- it velcros and you can pull it super taught using the crib slats so it doesn't pull down/away at all. My LO was getting stuck in the slats and waking up. This bumper is completely flush to the bars and I cannot pull it down myself because I pulled the Velcro so tight on the sides. It does tie as well but honestly the ties are barely needed. I highly recommend. LO hasn't rolled against it although he now sleeps on his tummy of his own choosing (always lay him on his back to sleep), and he sleeps great. I feel 100% safe with this. If his face did squish against it he could still breathe bc it is mesh.

The breathable mesh ones have been out for over six years. That's not very "new" in my mind. They work very well and I've never heard of a child suffocating from one unlike the other type of bumpers. My daughter has mesh on her big crib and her co-sleepers sides and the pack and play sides are all mesh. Never had a problem.

I use the mesh ones. I'm super paranoid about baby suffocating but I'm not w these. They are super breathable. Before we started using them LO used to get his arms and legs stuck thru the slats and wake up constantly. Now he never gets stuck and he doesn't pull them down either bc they are super tight 😊

We put the mesh around 75% of it. She still gets her little legs stuck in the open side from time to time, but the biggest issue was that she was getting splinters from the wall. I like the mesh because she burrows when she sleeps, so she is still getting air. She even wakes up with the mesh print on her face sometimes.
