When should I tell my employer Im pregnant?

Im not that far along. 4-5 weeks only, and I planned on telling them when Im in my second trimester. I work at a single dentist office as the receptionist.

I hear everyone's opinion. And can understand. But I felt so wrong not telling right away when I knew. Because I knew he was screw over by several girls before me starting to work for him. Because they got pregnant just up and left him. He's a good doctor and employer so I felt like i needed to just tell him and let him know I had no intentions of abandoning my job. I said it was early and my 3rd pregnancy. I can't predict the future but I will be as reliable as I've always been if everything goes well with this pregnancy. First one in last one out morning sickness or not. I think he even forgot I had told him I was pregnant. We just went about our business and never mentioned again. My personal opinion. You can tell him when ever you are comfortable I know everyone's job duties are different.

I told my boss yesterday at 9 weeks and he was thrilled. But, I've worked with him for a decade and know him outside of work too. I decided that if something does happen to the baby I would want him to know so I can get time off for that too.

2nd trimester, there's not reason they need to know now as t won't impact your performance.

I'd wait until 12 weeks if it were me. 
I work retail with major appliances so I had to tell my HR and personal mgr early on because I was unable to continue moving appliances.
But if you aren't heavy lifting or doing things that are a risk while pregnant, I'd wait a little while.

I'm super close with my boss and manage a horse farm so my job is physical and involves lifting heavy things, and farm animals always pose somewhat of a risk, so I spilled the beans almost immediately because I was excited and knew my doctor would place me on a few limitation restrictions. I have not yet disclosed that I have every intention of being a stay at home mom and do not plan to return to work. I am waiting until the midway point to lay that one on the line to my boss. I am currently 16w.
