Cloth Diapers?

Question

I'm going to admit, I'm a total newbie in regards to this cloth diaper thing. I don't even know where to begin. I'm going to do disposable and cloth. I'm thinking disposable for out in public, and I'll try cloth at home. Anyways, does anyone have any good advice? Brands, tips? Honestly any input would help. Experiences? I'd love to hear it all!

Start with joining the FB group Fluff Love & CD Science. Then while you wait to be approved browse their website: Fluffloveuniversity.com.  They have tons of great and accurate information. You will learn all about the different types of diapers and go from there. Also, look up Obbsandlala on youtube. Go to her channel and look under the " Playlists" tab. She has an entire playlist dedicated to cloth diapers. She's extremely helpful as well.

My one piece of advice is to STAY AWAY from any detergents labeled as "cloth safe". They are literally made up of softeners and in order to even come close to getting soiled diapers clean, you would need to use way more than the recommended amount. Same goes for homemade "detergents". You can use most mainstream detergents. I'll leave a few pictures below for help/references.

As far as brands, there's so many different ones including many different wahms that make beautifully crafted cloth diapers. A few of my favorite are: Funky Fluff (we love these the most and use them almost exclusively especially when we go out), Grovia ONE (our bullet proof nighttime diaper), SmartBottoms, Sunbaby and MiniMoosDiapers (wahm on Etsy and fb). However, because every baby is different and not every diaper is made the same, what works for me or someone else may or may not work for you and vice versa.

Other popular brands are: Bumgenius, Grovia aio, Alvas, Glowbug.

Your make it or break it will all depend on your wash routine. Whats great about that Fb group I mentioned above is that they will help you set up a wash routine specific to your washer and your detergent wants/needs. I will also attach the questionnaire you will need to fill out to get a wash routine set up.

We've been using cloth exclusively now for 8 months with no problems and will never look back.

Fluff Love & CD Science on Facebook. Seriously has all the info you need and you can ask questions.  I use Alva pocket diapers with my daughter which are also referred to China cheapies because they're a more off brand but I like them. 
Just be aware that you need to get a wash routine (which someone on that site can give you based on your washer and how hard your water is) cuz if you don't the diapers may start to have a smell or not absorb as well due to mineral build up   There are also certain detergents that work better than others And never use fabric softener/dryer sheets!!!! 
Seriously request to be added to that Facebook and look through the files and everything it will give you a good idea of what's all involved and help make a decision on if it's what you want to do and if you do how to wash and all the other stuff about cloth diapers 
I'm so glad I did. Ive avoided lots of problems by learning from that group :)

Grovia!!! 
Best diapers ever! So easy and versatile! We use the hybrid system during the day, and their ONE diapers for overnight.. Never have leak problems and the company is FANTASTIC. The hybrid system can be used with pre folds, fst, their inserts, or their disposable (and biodegradable) biosoakers. Their one diapers are just amazing. You can choose snaps or hook and loop, it has two soakers. All Grovia products fit 8-35lbs (however my 3.5  38lb daughter fits in them still!) the hybrid shells fold small enough to fit newborns. ;) shells can be reused if they haven't been pooped in (just make sure you switch to a new she'll every few changes ;).)

If you are on FB they have a wonderful, drama free, non judge mental, helpful group called Grovia Families. The owner and creator of Grovia is an active member and often personally helps people with fit issues, wash routines, and general questions. She often gives sneak peeks on products. (Like a June and January collaboration!)
They also have a B/S/T group too (Grovia bst) that's also run by the company and no product can be sold over retail (i.e.: a new shell can be sold for a max of 16.95, but that has to include the shipping.. So really you get the shell for $11.95). This goes for Hard to find retired prints as well. The company does a great job at preventing price gouging in that group! They are ethical and practical and to me, it makes it worth it.

Cloth is super easy. Washing routines are simple as well. Some companies try to over complicate them.. Use enough detergent. Change every two hours.

The disposable/cloth combination is great if youre a newbie. If it's just a short outing, I'd usually stick with cloth. But if there's any chance baby needed to be changed, I always went with disposable. 
I like sweetbottomsbaby.com, sign up for their emails and they send lots of coupons and sale alerts.
I personally like the Kawaii brand. They are affordable and good quality. They have a pure&natural line that is great for newborns and scrawny babies. My kids always had skinny legs which can be a source for leaks. 
It's daunting, but not that much extra work when you get the hang of it!

I would say go all in or don't do it at all. I actually found that to be much easier than balancing when I needed to bring which type of diaper. All in one cloth diapers are definitely the easiest but also can be more expensive, we have really liked our Bumgenius and Grovia diapers the most. I suggest getting the baby oxiclean and every once in a while just let those diapers soak! You'll be surprised how well it works on getting out the poop stains. They also sell diaper liners now that you can put in the diaper and take out and flush in case they poop instead of scraping poop off. They are a huge lifesaver and also help a lot when in public.
