Baby temp 98.7- is that a fever?

My 1 month old sons has a temp of 98.7 (armpit) and has been fussy all day, only really calming down whe he's held. Is this a fever? Do I need to get him check out in the ER tonight or can this wait?

Check him again in 15-20 minutes and consider what he is wearing. Nothing to worry about as long as the temp is between 97-99 degrees. My baby is in nicu. We check temp at every diaper change and that's the range the nurses & doctors expect to see.

anything over 99.5 is considered a fever.

As horrible as this sounds do rectal it's more accurate anything over 100.4 is considered a fever
