Most people who receive any type of assistance, have at least one working adult in the household.
The average person only pays 15-20 cents a paycheck into all welfare programs. 
You have to work or do some type of program to receive cash assistance.
The average meal per person on foodstamps is $2.15
How the fuck do you know they didn't have a gift card, or they saved up the $4-5 to get a coffee from their favorite place that week?

Just because you receive government assistance doesn't automatically make you a drug addict. I hate how people are too ignorant to learn these common misconceptions and judgements.

I'm really confused with what Mylan raising the price of the EpiPen had anything to do with Drug testing welfare recipients(something done by the state and that has shown to be a waste of money). Yet this is a person who is willing to go to jail for beating said welfare recipients for getting coffee so maybe rational thought isn't their thing.

It's irritating as fuck to me, excuse my language, but people are always talking down on food stamp recipients. Quit assuming that every person who receives assistance is a "lazy ass" who doesn't work and just sits at home with their feet kicked up sipping their starbucks and laughing about how they're living off of that small tiny % of your paycheck.

We get food stamps because my son is disabled, requiring me recently to leave my job and my husband had a devastating medical diagnosis that required brain surgery. He is no longer able to work more than a part time job. We went from very comfortable to struggling. We paid a lot if taxes prior to my husband's diagnosis, so we're getting that 30+ years back. And when you're dealing with disabilities, you use every resource available.

Firstly, no family can afford to live on foodstamps alone. It's $200 and something a month for 3 people. No matter how you stretch it, your not feeding everyone for a month. It's worse when you have special dietary needs. It's a supplement.

Secondly, you don't know a strangers story. Our family budgets our money so we can have a treat once a month. But you better believe we're signed up for every coupon program ever for the things we like. And for holidays, we often get gift cards for coffee, pizza, etc from family. We aren't frivolously out there blowing cash.

Most of my nice stuff are hand me downs or thrift store purchases. We sold just about everything of value to survive the worst. But that doesn't stop people from judging me. Obviously they miss my superglued glasses because of the coach purse my mother in law gave me. The first new to me purse in three years. They also missed my $3 shoes, my 10 year old clothes that are way too big... You get the idea.

And to think that if I got a couple of dollars from my mom or had been squirrelling away pennies for months to have a good cup of coffee meant someone would vilify me? Lord forbid, I had some hard earned cash in my wallet. It's devastating. It happens and it sucks. But you're not gonna shame me... I don't regret working my tail off to make our lives work under horrible, soul crushing circumstances. And when that jerk in line behind me makes a comment to me, I tell them my story...putting the shame where it really belongs.
