The best plan is no plan!

My angel was born Thursday August 25th via c-section. My water broke at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. I had no labor pains leading up to it nor did any labor pains start. Once admitted into the hospital, I was still at 1cm which is the same from previous weeks. My doctor wanted to immediately start pitocin because of my water bag being broken and the risk of infection going up after hours of it being ruptured. I still desired a more natural birth free of medical intervention so my husband and I decided to hold off 6 hours to get pitocin as recommended by my doctor just to see if I would at naturally progress. By 10pm, I was still at 1cm being forced to start pitocin. At this point, I decided to be more open to the changes of my birthing plan. Contractions starting hitting quickly and I fought through them naturally until around 3am. I became so overly exhausted and just wanted to sleep at this point so I decided to get the epidural especially since I knew the contractions would just get worse and I was already feeling so tired. The epidural was a scary thought but I literally felt no pain when getting it! In due time, I was able to sleep for a moment. Throughout the night, the contractions hit harder and my baby wasn't tolerating even the smallest amount of pitocin. Her heart rate kept dropping at the end of each contraction. The nurse did everything from cutting off the pitocin for an hour but even then she still wasn't tolerating it. At around 8am, the nurse finally checked my dilation and I only made it to 2cm. At this point, I just knew when they called my doctor I would have to go through a c-section. I began to mentally prepare myself because I've been ruptured for about 18 hours now, baby wasn't tolerating contractions, risk of infection, baby had pooped in the womb, and I haven't even made it into an active labor stage. So many factors were stacked up against me and my birth plan. Everything I was against, I had to do! Sure enough, my doctor said she will be in at 11:30 to deliver my baby via c-section. I started crying so hard. My husband just held my hand and the nurse just kept apologizing. To make a long story short, my baby girl Parker Elyse was born at 11:49am! She had some lungs on her and although the risk of infection was high, she was as healthy as could be and a whopping 8lbs and 11oz. Honestly, the best plan in birth is to be open to any plan. You never know how your body or baby will go through labor. Although recovery is hard, holding my baby and seeing her beautiful face makes every pain in my body subside. So happy Parker and I are perfectly healthy! I just love everything about her. She's my everything ❤️
